Position Description:

The Market Development Manager is responsible for developing and communicating the India market development plan. This includes planning and executing the research needed to understand India’s industry needs and trends as well as the company’s current and desired value propositions that meet these needs. The Manager develops research sources and capabilities with both internal and external partners/resources and uses the information gathered to support development of industry and marketing strategy, product/solution marketing and management, and commercial / sales enablement. This position will report to the Director of Marketing.

· Develop an in-depth understanding of customer needs in the Refining, Petrochemicals, Specialty Chemicals and Power vertical markets within India

· In partnership with the Industry Market leaders and the Commercial organization, define the market opportunity for critical industries and sub-segments over a multi-year period

· Conduct market sizing/opportunity studies to identify India growth markets.

· Adopt and institutionalize standard analysis and assessment models (e.g. Porter’s Five Forces)

· Provide actionable, fact-based research and insight that align with objectives, goals and business decisions

· Monitor region-specific industry trends (e.g. industry regulations, technology trends, macroeconomic conditions, business processes, challenges) and terminology, and act as the regional subject matter expert

· In partnership with product management, determine the form of solution(s) to be developed and promoted (product/service, market structure, bundle or integrated) to maximize business results

· Proactively communicate insight, summaries and synthesis to internal groups and business partners (e.g., regional opportunity by sub-industry)

· Support development and design of applicable surveys, interviews, focus group guides and usability studies that can be conducted with external partners or internal constituents

· Contribute to and refine buyer personas based on industry, regional and local cultural knowledge as well as direct interaction with customers

· Analyze and package quantitative and qualitative information and guidance for internal distribution

· Develop mechanisms to deliver information, including comparison grids, competitive profiles/snapshots and dashboards

Principal Accountabilities

  • Act as the primary internal market consultant for India for all market segments

  • Current customer insights, preferences and trends

  • Lead and coordinate Voice of Customer activities in India

  • Inputs in improving and qualifying the sales funnel in CRM system

  • Develop, own, maintain and communicate aligned India market penetration roadmaps

  • Regular updates on business priorities, projects and research needs

  • Briefing materials on markets and customers

Position Requirements:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Business required

  • Master’s degree/MBA preferred

  • 10+ years’ previous marketing and/or sales experience in India market

  • Industry expertise/fluency required in Oil & Gas, Chemicals and/or Power markets

  • Experience working with EPC company desired, preferably in Refining and/or Power industry

  • Product/solution marketing experience a plus

  • Sales experience a plus

Required Skills

  • Strong communication skills (oral and written). English and Hindi preferred

  • Excellent interpersonal skills specially expressed in the Voice of the Customer

  • Able to generate a cohesive market penetration strategy from primary market knowledge and research

  • Weave insights into critical India sales & marketing strategies and initiatives including how to anticipate customer buying behavior in support of India sales enablement

  • Ability to work across business units, connect with sales resources, customers and channel partners

  • Ability to exercise industry expertise/fluency to represent company at industry and trade events within India

  • Analytical and intuitive

Desired Skills

  • Expertise in communicating needs from India market in key industries/segments

  • Knowledge of Flowserve target market segments and customer personas

  • Experience with primary/secondary research methods, both offline and online

  • Expertise in regulatory/legal trends, products/services currently offered
